Stitch Whimsy

So this is my first attempt at cable knitting. I have the hang of it, but I dare say that if I finish this up, there will be a heap of cables and no regular knitting. The cable needle you see in this picture is a modified piece of plastic. It used to be one of those single floss dohickeys. You know, the one that have the U shaped head and the flossing string across the front? That’s what it is. It works like a charm, too. I was using a twisted modified paper clip, but I prefer this much more. That book you see under my work is an old needlecraft book my mother found and let me use.

Well I am working on another scarf. It is shaping up to be a beauty, although I might frog it. Why? Because I don’t know if I want to finish it only to have it here not selling. It is two tone purple with my own design interpretation of stitches that I liked. Take a gander:

I just got finished knitting this scarf while watching a new revelation to my eyes on the DIY Network: Knitty Gritty. I was taken by the show. Today they were doing kitschy Christmas projects. Excited? You bet. I just set my DVR for that and the Martha Stewart Craft show which came on right before it. Tuned in for her to be pleasantly surprised by the knitting show. Right now I am looking over all the interesting knitting info and tips on DIY.

Last night I finished Blanket Therapy. I can’t show you the picture until I give the present away, but it’s gorgeous. Anyone on Ravelry can see it, though, as I have posted it there. Being a closed community that I know this person is not a member of, I thought it fitting to share there

I also finished a headband *knitted* and am now working on something else. I got the wrong color blue to finish what I started in another project. Don’t you hate getting to the last row and a half thinking you will make it and then *poof* all your yarn is gone? UGH. I am still going to use the blue I bought, just not for that.

I just read a really good FAQ about yarn and all the things that we normally hear. Things like gauge and ply are discussed, as well as the different types of fiber there are. I am really interested in all the different types of fibers available to work into projects. I am using acrylics so far because they are cost effective. I would love to be able to get some other fibers soon, though.

I am also working on a secret surprise for my therapist. I hope she likes it. My goal is to be finished by the 20th. So far, I am 80% finished. I just started it the day before yesterday. It’s crocheted with some really nice colors. I can’t wait to show you all, but it will have to wait till after I see her on the 20th.

Thank for the reprieve y’all. Today I am posting the triple stitch tutorial. Looks much better than the other one I had done yesterday. Thing is, my lighting is always a little frogged, but I will find the perfect balance soon I also end up having to work around my son a lot, so I have to take what I can get. So without further delay:

What did I do?

Well my son was gone from Friday night till Monday afternoon (at his aunt’s house), so I took it upon myself to get my sewing machine out and do some things.

I lined a purse my mother gave me.
I finished the knitted purse and lined it.
I made my needle kit on the sewing machine.
Finished decorating my tree.
Finished decorating the house.
Sat down and just knitted to my heart’s content.

It was a gloriously productive weekend
