Spinning Progress: 1 ounce BFL dark

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

So here is my second attempt at spinning BFL dark, my 8th spinning experience overall. This is one ounce that I spun over 2 days. The spinning is becoming more and more consistent. I would call this worsted to lace weight yarn. Some of it is still rather thin, but I am getting the hang of park and draft as well as a bit of draft while spinning. I switch constantly, for various reasons. This is gorgeous fiber and I wish I could get a more close picture of the fibers as they lay on the wooden knitting needle.

The best in wrist support

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

So this is what I knit with one of my first handspun yarns this morning. I figured I should use some of it since I am spinning more. This was done this morning at the library during my son’s story hour. I just finished up with the lacing and had to block the thumb a bit larger…which I am doing while wearing it. Working pretty good so far. I have about 2 1/4 yards left out of about 17. Pretty nifty. I was inspired by Knitty Gritty yesterday when they were knitting gauntlets. This is my own design, though.

Navy Blues Front

Check out a pic of the back on my Flickr. This was supposed to be a shirt with a high neck and twisted back straps, but something went wonky and I totally improvised. Why? Because brushed acrylic is horrific to frog and I didn’t feel like wasting all that yarn. It feels heavenly and it is soooo warm.

BFL *dies*

OMG I just got the pound of BFL in the mail today. Im petting it. It’s so pretty. I don’t ever want to spin it. I want to roll around in it like a blanket. Terrible, right? OMG I never dreamed it would be this soft.

Vestilence Complete

I finished this completely today. It fits great. I can’t wait to wear it. On to finish my crochet Navy Blues next. After that? I don’t know. I will probably be spinning my BFL by then. I hope so, anyway.

The cutest knitting cake ever

Go and take a look at the Knitting basket cake someone made. It is so adorable I just had to share.

Charging toward the finish line

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Vestilence is nearly complete. I am only inhces from the end of the front side. Then it’s the finishing. I cannot wait. I have found a number of ways to knit longer than my wrists want to because I have learned how to take the pressure off.

What else have I learned?

How to cable without a cable needle.
How to frog and fix a cable without totally frogging the project.
A better way to count my rows since I do not own a row counter.

I won’t be taking any pictures until the front is completely finished.

A pound of BFL? YES

DROOLS Yes I did it
I bought a pound of Blue Faced Leceister Dark. I shouldn’t have bought it yet but I couldn’t let it go. She only had ten lots available. If I didn’t get it now and waited and it was gone I would have kicked myself. I check this site all the time for fibers and this is THE one for me, I just know it.
