Progress: Rain Cloud Shrug

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

So here is the progress on this circular shrug. I have added some lace patterns into it and am rather pleased with the results thus far. All of the design is on the fly, the only thing that will end up being the same as the pattern from Ravelry are the general dimensions and seaming. Everything else is my own imagination running wild.

I got this book :

It is so awesome with all its practical and technical information. I could become a knitting designer with the basic dimension, measurement, and gauge rules in the book. I never knew just how complicated and calculated knitting can be. This book is a real eye opener. I am still waiting for the other book, then I plan to get AMERICA’S CROCHET BOOK and a Singer sewing book.

Online Craft Club: Rain Cloud Shrug

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Okay so I decided to try to do a circular shrug that I found on Ravelry. It’s very simple, so I also made a heap of changes to the design, though the seaming up will be the same as the original pattern. Here is the beginning of said shrug:

I like working with the Wool-Ease, even though it is kind of splitty. I am using needles 2 sizes higher than recommended on the label. Even still, this stuff spilts more than Caron Simply Soft, but comes up with a very spongy and soft fabric that I like.

Charging toward the finish line

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Vestilence is nearly complete. I am only inhces from the end of the front side. Then it’s the finishing. I cannot wait. I have found a number of ways to knit longer than my wrists want to because I have learned how to take the pressure off.

What else have I learned?

How to cable without a cable needle.
How to frog and fix a cable without totally frogging the project.
A better way to count my rows since I do not own a row counter.

I won’t be taking any pictures until the front is completely finished.

Finally making some progress

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

UGH The front of this vest gave me such a hassle! I had to undo and redo the front b/c of the friggin cables TEN TIMES. Now I am on a roll with Grey Poupon:

That pink and blue thing in the picture is one of the point protectors I made with my homemade clay. I think my dog ate the other one *doh* I have more, though.

Vestilence: The back is done

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

PHEW!!! I finally got the back finished at 9pm tonight. I will probably start the other one either later tonight if I can’t sleep or tomorrow sometime. It is amazing to see something come together like this. Can you see the blue pyramid in the middle? I can. I love the colors. If the yarn that I like in wool and in this color wasn’t $9.50 per 2 ounces (plus shipping) I would make another in wool as well.

This could easily be converted to a dress pattern. I can see a heap of possibilities with this. Now that I know the basics of the pattern, there is no stopping the creativity. Next time, I might even try to knit this in the round. I can see how it would be easily converted to circular needles.

Continental or English?

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I just learned how to throw English style yesterday while watching Knitty Gritty. Something about the way the lady on television was doing it just finally clicked for me. I have found that I enjoy purling continental and knitting English. It goes much faster for me than just knitting and purling continental. I am flying through this sweater. The only thing that will stop me is the end of the yarn:

This was the scene this morning. I was 7 inches up. Now I am 12 1/2 inches up. This is what nervous tension does to me. I don’t know what else to do. …

Anyway, what way do you prefer ? English or Continental?

It’s electric! Glasses case

It’s electric! Glasses case

This was my interim project so that I didn’t just start another sweater right away. I was going to crochet it but I didn’t have enough yarn to do that so it ended up being knitted on my size 8 circulars. I wanted to try the magic loop method and I was pleased to find how well it works. I won’t be buying a heap of short cabled circulars anytime soon.

ACountryMint done??

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

Well in terms of the pattern I was basing my work from, yes this sweater is done. BUT In my head, after trying it on, I find that my shoulders are FREEZING so I am going to make two bands to go across there

What do you all think?

Just 48 more rows….

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Okay we are down to the most tedious part of this process to date. I am fighting my way through the last boring ribbing rows of this sweater and praying that it fits when I am done. I did all my measurements and calculations. I did all the adjusting and fixing. It’s nearly the moment of truth. Just 6 more inches of ribbing to go (more or less). Here are the front and back respectively:

This one is posted for Online Craft Club.

ACountryMint Sweater in the last stages

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Here we are in the last stages of the sweater I began on the 26th of December 07. I have about 6 inches more to go up the top and then I am supposedly finished. I had a few snags in the middle, like when I added the sleeve parts they left holes on either side of the cuff. LOVELY! So I asked for a little help and figured out how to make them non-existent. I can’t believe I am nearly finished this sweater.
