Ravelry - a knit and crochet community

Holy smokes. The list is FLYING. I am so excited!

In other news, I am working on a hat of sorts. I don’t like it yet, though. I might end up ripping out the edging. Personally, I like hats that go around my head proper. This one is more of a decorative head covering. Take a look and tell me what you think:

I love the top. That is one of the new stitches I learned from the Stitch Bible. IT really is amazing to look at, especially in a picture like this. I think it’s hard to see the beauty in it when you have worked on it yourself. The pattern gets fuzzy in your mind as you try to make it out with your eyes. I think all you can see by the time you get done is sc, dc, ss, LOL It’s the crochet matrix ;)

Saturday, November 10th, 2007
  • You signed up on October 20, 2007
  • You are #46611 on the list.
  • 2351 people are ahead of you in line.
  • 9036 people are behind you in line.
  • 79% of the list has been invited so far

Those are my up to the minute ravelry invite numbers.

In other news, I was so agitated yesterday that I did this hat in about 20 minutes:

I think I used the J needle for this, but danged if I can remember. It came out really nice for a little boy. I don’t know if I will sell or keep for Christmas. It’s called smoky because it is a nice grey color. I love the way it looks. I might have to make another one sometime soon.

I might get into the stitch book tonight. It’s a lot to take in. I have to decide what exactly I want to do first, then attack it. You know, visualize and attack..like Bobby Bouchet from Waterboy hehe.

In other news:
I am going to try and do a tutorial or two a week on video for all my crochet friends.

Dusty Rose Mitts and Rose Hat

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

My latest projects. The mittens are up for sale right now. The hat that I made with the same color as the mittens is being sold, too. They are in a set on my etsy shop.

The little rose hat I have here is up for sale, but I didn’t put it in the shop yet. I don’t really know if I want to keep that for Christmas time or just sell this one and make another one. If anyone is interested in this one, let me know. It will fit a child around one to three years, I would fathom. IT does stretch, even though it looks pretty conical.

Unraveling waiting for Ravelry.com

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

I signed up on the waiting list for Ravelry.com on October 20th. I have been (im)patiently awaiting my invitation ever since. Thankfully, for those of us who are antsy we can check out our place in line as much as we wish. I am moving up on the list. The other day I was somewhere behind about 6300 people. Today I am behind about 4900 people. So it is moving… just not fast enough for me. The more I look at the preliminary webshots of the site, the more excited I get about joining the community.

Helmet Liners for the Troops

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Helmet Liners for the TroopsI saw this the other day on a knitting site. I was like “Dang I would love to make that. I wonder if I could do that in crochet”. Lo and behold, last night I was reading Crochetville forums and found that one of the participants posted the link to the patterns for knitters AND crocheters alike. So here is the link to the helmet liner pattern. You should know that this pattern requires wool yarn. If you are allergic to wool, then this wouldn’t be the project for you.

Alternative to Expensive Yarn Caddy

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

I miss the old style 2 Liter soda bottles. They were not all one unit. They had a plastic tube top and a glued on bottom cup. You could easily dismantle the bottle once all the soda was gone and use it like one of the newer expensive yarn caddies. They look JUST like the soda bottles of old, but cost way more due to rebranding and a bit of revamping of the bottle.

Instead of buying such a contraption, I have decided to find an alternative. Right now my caddy of choice is the cd spindle top. It’s one that goes over the top of 100 cds. You roll your yarn in a ball, plop it in there, and place it upright on any flat surface. VOILA you have a homemade yarn caddy. You could improve upon that design by using the actual spindle as the top. Break off the long spindle and you have a circular hole perfect for threading your yarn through. You can use the 50 cd top for the same thing. Here is in example:

30 Days of Crochet: NaBloPoMo

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Can I do it? I wonder. I am at least going to try. Thanks to the prompting of many of my friends, I have decided that I should at least do that. I am going to do my best to get at least one post about crochet up here a day. This doesn’t count as my post for the day, though. I have something else in mind.
