I had some minor problems, like the back rolled down so I had to add the cinch string around the top. I had to redo the cast off, because it was so tight I couldn’t put it on. All in all, my first attempt at designing off the cuff in knitting came out rather nicely.

Here is the first nearly completed sleeve of my “that 70s shrug” named for the color of the bright yarn on the end. This sleeve looks crazy flat, BUT when it is worn it looks awesome. I am writing out the pattern b/c I am contemplating sharing it with all of you. I have also begun the 2nd sleeve already and am thinking about how I am going to join the sleeves in without seaming or kitchener stitch. I have a few ideas rolling around in my head…so we shall see.

Last night I took out some aggression and smacked around my spun dark BFL. It came out really nice. I was a bit scared that it felted in the hot tub water, but it didn’t. It just washes funny and comes out fluffy and pretty. It tends to unspin a bit in the water, too… so I have to overspin it a bit before I wash and whack it. So here is what I have:

The Rain Cloud Shrug is done
I started a new project with 2 different textured yarns and crochet. It’s done with a large crochet hook on both textures. It will end up being a shawl or capelet type thing when I am done:

So here is the progress on this circular shrug. I have added some lace patterns into it and am rather pleased with the results thus far. All of the design is on the fly, the only thing that will end up being the same as the pattern from Ravelry are the general dimensions and seaming. Everything else is my own imagination running wild.
I got this book :
It is so awesome with all its practical and technical information. I could become a knitting designer with the basic dimension, measurement, and gauge rules in the book. I never knew just how complicated and calculated knitting can be. This book is a real eye opener. I am still waiting for the other book, then I plan to get AMERICA’S CROCHET BOOK
and a Singer sewing book.

Okay so I decided to try to do a circular shrug that I found on Ravelry. It’s very simple, so I also made a heap of changes to the design, though the seaming up will be the same as the original pattern. Here is the beginning of said shrug:
I like working with the Wool-Ease, even though it is kind of splitty. I am using needles 2 sizes higher than recommended on the label. Even still, this stuff spilts more than Caron Simply Soft, but comes up with a very spongy and soft fabric that I like.

So here is my second attempt at spinning BFL dark, my 8th spinning experience overall. This is one ounce that I spun over 2 days. The spinning is becoming more and more consistent. I would call this worsted to lace weight yarn. Some of it is still rather thin, but I am getting the hang of park and draft as well as a bit of draft while spinning. I switch constantly, for various reasons. This is gorgeous fiber and I wish I could get a more close picture of the fibers as they lay on the wooden knitting needle.
